Happy Earth Day!
Given we’re an all-natural vitamin & supplement company, we think the earth is pretty cool. We are constantly amazed at the power of plants, herbs, and other natural elements of the earth. Today we’re excited to share some of our favorite earth-grown ingredients, and we hope you walk away from this article with a little more awe for the earth we live on and all it has to offer!
1. Magnolia Bark Extract
Coming from the bark of a magnolia tree, this extract is a powerful stress reducer in our Stress & Anxiety supplement. Magnolia bark extract increases the level of GABA in your brain, which induces feelings of relaxation and calmness, subsequently lowering the level of cortisol in your bloodstream.
It works on the GABA receptors in the same way benzodiazepines do – anti-stress/anxiety medications like Xanax, Valium, and Ativan. In fact, magnolia bark extract has been clinically tested against Xanax and Valium and was shown to be more effective at reducing stress, but without the addictive properties, drowsiness, and motor impairment associated with the prescription counterparts.
2. Ginger Root Extract
In our Stress & Anxiety supplement, we like to think of ginger root extract as nature’s cheerleader. It doesn’t have any anti-stress/anxiety properties itself, but has been clinically proven to increase the effectiveness of the magnolia bark extract by up to 400%!
This ingredient is a cheerleader for the magnolia bark extract but also a key player in our Digestive Support. Along with peppermint extract, ginger root extract relaxes the muscles in your intestines, helping to properly and comfortably digest your food.
3. Red Yeast Rice Extract
This is a rice product that’s fermented by bacteria and contains the compound “lovastatin”. “Statins” are molecules that can reduce cholesterol levels in the body by preventing the conversion of food to cholesterol.
Lovastatin is the most effective naturally-occurring statin, and therefore is a commonly prescribed cholesterol medication. The red yeast rice extract found in our Cholesterol Support offers an amazing natural alternative to the lovastatin prescription medication.
We love what spirulina does for us as part of our Immune Boost supplement. This ingredient is extremely dense in a variety of vitamins and minerals, therefore upping your body’s overall nutrient levels to help your immune system stay in the best shape.
Moreover, spirulina is derived from algae which is naturally resistant to bacteria and viruses. So, not only is this ingredient equipping your immune system to better handle bacteria and viruses, but the spirulina itself is also actively fighting off any bacteria or viruses in your body!
5. Papaya Fruit Extract
This ingredient is an important element of our Digestive Support because papaya fruit contains a powerful digestive enzyme called “papain”. Your body naturally releases an enyzme called “protease” in order to break down the proteins you eat, and the papain in papaya also acts as a protease, giving your digestive system an extra boost.
In fact, many cultures in Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Philippines use papaya as a meat tenderizer due to its superb ability to break down the proteins in the meat!
6. Valerian Root Extract
7. Passion Flower Extract
8. Hops Extract
Valerian root extract, passion flower extract, and hops extract – ingredients that come from three different types of flowers – make up our All-Natural Sleep Aid.
Valerian root extract and passion flower extract increase the level of GABA in your brain, which sends sedative and relaxing signals throughout your body.
Hops extract is another natural cheerleader, increasing the effectiveness of the valerian root extract. It also has sedative properties of its own, which is why you too much beer can make you sleepy!
This trio of ingredients has been clinically tested against Ambien – the most popular prescription sleep aid in the U.S. – and was found to be just as effective, but with none of the negative side effects, which include risk of addiction, excess drowsiness, and morning grogginess.
